It is considered that almost 1 in 50 people will be directly affected by this disease during their lifetime. Although widespread, <\/span><span lang=\"fr\" style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: Calibri;\">there is currently no cure<\/span><span lang=\"fr\" style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"> for the disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\" style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 8pt; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">In the Parkinson&#8217;s disease field, the notion of the origins of the pathology is still debated<\/span>. Some studies contend that neuronal dysfunction and injury cannot occur without the demonstrable presence of inclusions, while other studies report the potential harm that alpha-synuclein oligomers can have.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\" style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 8pt; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\">This is reminiscent of another neurodegenerative pathology: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Alzheimer&#8217;s disease<\/span>. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">For decades<\/span>, it was thought that amyloid beta deposited into plaques was the most harmful to neurons. However, more recent evidence points to diffusible, soluble small amyloid beta moieties as being the major neurotoxic form.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\" style=\"margin-top: 12pt; margin-bottom: 12pt; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\">Many observations indicate that alpha-synuclein inclusion formation <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">is not the major driver in the early phases of PD-like neurodegeneration<\/span>, but that <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">diffusible, oligomeric alpha-synuclein species<\/span>, which drive synaptic degeneration, trigger neuroinflammation and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">ultimately induces loss of dopaminergic neurons<\/span>. This could have <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">important implications for the design of therapeutic interventions<\/span> during the early stages of the disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI Emoji';\">\ud83e\udde0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Always guided by our commitment to improving patients&#8217;
